Modernism





-Modernism is expression that distinguish many styles in the arts and literature of the 20th century
-Less formal design style

International Typographic Style





-Developed in Switzerland in the 1950's
-Asymmetrical layout, a grid, sans-serif typefaces
-The grid was of horizontal and vertical lines used to align the elements in their designs

Art Deco





-The movement occured between the two world wars
-Rejected romantic decoration

Constructivism





-Constructivism was first created in Russia in 1913
-The artists tried to link art with concrete and tangible ideas
-Created a style of art that was orderly

Bauhaus





-Bauhaus was a school of art, design and architecture founded in Germany in 1919.
The school strived to produce a new approach to architecture that incorporated artistic design, craftsmanship, and modern machine technology
-Characterized by its severely economic, geometric design and by its respect for materials

Art Nouveau





-Developed in Europe and North America at the end of the nineteenth century
-An attempt to create an international style based on decoration
-In many ways a response to the Industrial Revolution
